Downs Steam Tourist Railway & Museum
DownsSteam, founded in 2001, has built up an operational railway precinct on the former Drayton sidings and acquired a sizable fleet of rolling stock, including the steam locomotive C16 No. 106 “Pride of Toowoomba,” a branch line diesel locomotive, a railmotor, stainless steel “Brisbane Suburban,” and air-conditioned “Sunlander” coaches.
Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm, DownStream Museum is open for visitors. The “Memory Coach,” DAV 1131, is displayed at the DownStream Museum. It was one of the first 17 “Pullman” first-class sleeper cars that Ipswich Workshops recoded DAS around 1935.
Moreover, you may see the Spencer Works No. 6, a special 1/3 scale replica steam traction engine that the late Damian Strofeld worked on for 15 years and finished in 2004. You will see all these and more.
Queens Park
Each Garden City visitor must stroll through the State Heritage-listed Queens Park and Botanic Gardens. The parkland, which spans more than 25 gorgeous hectares, has been a favourite among locals and tourists from the surrounding area since it originally opened to the public in the late 1800s.
The parkland has much to offer across three distinct areas: the Queens Park Botanic Gardens, Vera Lacaze Memorial Park, and Queens Park’s greater park area. These areas range from tree-lined avenues and woodlands to open space sporting ovals, all-abilities playgrounds, barbecue and picnic facilities, and picnic and barbecue facilities.
The Languages and Cultures Festival in August, The Flower, Food and Wine Festival, and Side-Show Alley in September are among the many community events in the park.
