Bush Christmas Exhibition
Bush Christmas began in 1996 when a group of women in Western Queensland recognised the talent that was going unnoticed in rural and remote areas. The exhibition celebrates outback’s creative talent every year by presenting a magnificent collection of handmade gifts and gourmet delights.
Exhibitors are primarily from the bush and aided by a few selected city artisans, many of whom come from rural backgrounds. The Bush Christmas exhibition, open for ten days and unlike anything else in Australia, is a highly anticipated event on the Toowoomba for Christmas gifts and gourmet shoppers.
Bush Christmas will be held at the Masonic Centre Toowoomba from November 23 to December 2, just an 8-minute walk from Laguna Apartments.
Songs from the Silk Road
Witness Michel Gasco of Orontes’ musical journey along the Silk Road, which includes traditional compositions from Afghanistan, Iran, Palestine, Syria, and Turkey.
Gasco, a Spanish multi-instrumentalist with deep roots in Silk Road music, is a master of the oud and the Afghan rubab. His east-meets-west performance style infuses subtle influences to significant effect. Timothy Johannessen, formerly of the classical Persian outfit Mehr Ensemble and current member of Black Aleph, joins Michel on daf and percussion. Songs from the Silk Road is on November 25 at Empire Church Theatre of The Empire Theatre.
Camerata – Mozart’s Jupiter
Experience some of the most glorious classical music ever performed by a stage full of Queensland-based artists. Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony, described as “a triumph of instrumental composition,” has been a favourite of audiences since its premiere and is one of his most celebrated works.
Following “Jupiter,” violinist Daniel Kowalik and violist Thomas Chawner – one half of Camerata’s Quartet-in-Residence, the Orava Quartet – will perform Mozart’s exuberant Sinfonia Concertante in a stunningly melded partnership in this most joyous and lyrical work.
The night will conclude with a surprise guest for their signature Wild Card segment at the Armitage Centre on November 26. The centre is the most recent construction of the Empire Theatre Toowoomba.
