COVID could not stop our Carnival of Flowers, which went ahead, albeit with a few changes, receiving a fantastic turnout for its 71st event with a buzzing atmosphere all over Toowoomba that definitely kick-started the spring season in high spirits!
Visitors came from all over to receive a warm welcome from the locals, enjoying gorgeous floral displays throughout Queens Park, Laurel Bank Park, the Japanese Gardens, Boyce Gardens and more that certainly took our breath away under the week-long sunshiny weather.
The annual Grand Central Floral Parade took place as an “Itty-Bitty” static display but didn’t leave anyone disappointed with its colourful arrangement of big and miniature floral sculptures. This year’s winners have now been announced (viewable online), and include Woolworths, Heritage Bank, Junk Made, Darling Downs Irish Club, Toowoomba Caledonian Society and Pipe Band, and Scouts Darling Downs!
As usual, foodies spoiled themselves to local Toowoomba cuisine that, this year, was helped on by the Carnival’s exclusive #trEATS special, providing a much-needed boost for local food businesses.
Despite the changes and guidelines, it was a fantastic time for all across the 10-day event, with other notable highlights (worth mentioning) being the well-organised pop-up markets (thanks to the staff), the outdoor dance classes in Laurel Bank Park, beautiful floral chalk art from resident artist Stacey Blinco and, of course, the ever-popular Ferris Wheel and Night Garden light display in Queens Park.
With that said, we’re already looking forward to next year!
Not Going Anywhere – Carnival Gets New 5-Year Deal
The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, Australia’s longest-running flower festival and the most-attended event in the Darling Downs Region, recently received a new 5-year deal under Tourism and Events Queensland and the Toowoomba Regional Council – for locals and visitors, this is fantastic news and confirmation that it’s not going anywhere anytime soon!
Considering this year’s success under the circumstances, the Carnival of Flowers will only return stronger with all of its events, shows and exhibitions expected to be back to normal for next spring.
